What am I?

This is a very good question, that I am asked quite a lot. What they mean is ofc what I do for a living. The short answer is a seamstress. The not so short answer would be: I am a small business owner with a vision and dream. A dream that handmade clothes doesn’t have to be expensive. For me, it means finding fabric on sale for example and make a dress out of it. Or pants. Or a set. Something. And offer this at a lower price than most handmade clothes. Some people say I do not value the time I have put on this. Well, I have. My time to make someone happy, feeling special, is a lot worth. Can’t be measured on money. To put a smile on a child’s face when they put on something that is not mass produced by a big clothing chain.

So what am I? A stay at home mom with a hobby she loves. That she made in to a business.

Because ofc, if you come to me, and wants me to buy a fabric that is 30 Euro, I am not going to only charge you 10 for a child dress. Then I will calculate how much the fabric will cost, and the extra materials, and give you a suggestion. This is why I needed the business, The Sewing Swede, to be allowed to take orders. 😀

Last week, all I did was cut cut cut and cut some more. I have planned to have 1 week cutting, and next week sewing. Because it is too time consuming to change between the 2 on the same day. I will only do that with orders that needs to be finished a certain time.

Back on the blog finally!

Hey people! It has been a while. And the short explanation is that the plugin for sharing on social media stopped working so then I would have to post everything 2 times, first here and then there. So I decided to go with Facebook for a while, maybe you have followed me there!

The LONG explanation is that I have moved, broken 2 toes, renovated the house we moved to, and just didnt have the patience to sit down and look for another plugin to do what I needed it to do. But now it is fixed!! Whoooop! Well to half at least. Still need to get it to Instagram, unless that works as well. We will soon find out.

So, today, I have finally started with cutting up the smaller pieces I have laying around. To make makeup pads and stuff from the leftover fabric after making something bigger. I like to use the whole meter, we need to stop wasting so much stuff that we can actually use.

House hunting and autumn!

My very best childhood friend and me have recently reconnected. And being who I am, I need to make her kids something. Well and her as well. I need to give some of me even though I am far away. So, I cant tell just yet, what I have made (since she will probably read this) but I promise that I will place pictures as soon as she has received it!

We have been house hunting lately. Found an awesome house, placed a bid but boooom, outbid with 50k Euro. Sweet lord. So now we took a step back and will think through how much time we want to put on it. We have at least decided that we want to stay in the area, mainly because of our son.

Autumn is here which means more indoors and chilly weather. So not as much time anymore in the afternoon to create . But today, before getting my son, I finished a pillow case for my sister in law. She needed a spare one. 😀

I used the pillow to make a pattern for it.

Traditions!

Here in Netherlands, the 5th of December, Sinterklaas comes with a gift. You sing and dance, eat kruidnoten and pepernoten and kids gets a gift or 10. You dress up as his helper, Piet or as Sinterklaas himself. Now, there are not really any dress-ups for babies because the fabric you use is not suitable for babies. So, a friend of mine asked me to make a Piet dress-up for her 5 months old. This is the result!

Pants are from Jungle pants from Puperita, shirt is Jelly shirt from Puperita and hat from Sara and Jules.

Saturday means workday

Saturday is for me a workday. Because it means that my partner is home and can share the attention from our son with me. Since 2 weeks, my sons school is closed because quite some teachers has tested positive for Covid. So… I do not get much done mid-week when my son is home. But today, I stole some hours at the machine.

Pattern of the tights are Petite Pegs from P4P and the romper is from Puperita

Not only clothes in the making

A while ago, my partner got an idea ow to make a computer station to have at the couch. We always sit in our livingroom in the evenings and his laptop screen was becoming too small for the games he wanted to play. So, here we are, 2 weeks later, and tadaaa, he has build a station. And he needed my help with fabric around the foot pillow ofc! Not the most pretty things I have ever done but it serves its purpose.

Sold the kid!

Haha nah kidding. He was at a friends house kind of the whole day so mommy got some work done. (pictures below) The colors are not correct though, I had no natural light to take the pictures in. Autumn and all that. Anyway, I hope a girl in Sweden will be happy and feel like a princess!

All patterns are from Puperita except the hat one!

Productive day!

Yesterday was a very productive day! Even though my machines were messing a bit with me. Like breaking a needle and making the thread in to a birds nest. A hat for my friends son, bib for the shop, pants for my son and 2 Christmas trees! The green one is for my son, it didn’t come together nice enough for the shop hehe. The red one, I didn’t take a pic of yet since I haven’t filled it up. This is what I am using my scraps for. Filling up stuff like the Christmas trees. No fabric goes to waste like this! The pants is pattern from the lovely #puperita #junglepants

Facebook screwups

Since Facebook has decided I can’t have a shop on my Facebook page, I will just start using my blog more. I am really done with fb changing things and I have to redo everything all over again. But hey, that’s the good thing with also having your own webpage, it’s yours hehe.

Well, lately I have been creating a lot of mouth caps (we just went back in to semi lockdown), gifts for my sons friend who had birthdays. And washable cotton pads! Lets try and save the nature a bit at a time.

Here below are some of the things I have done lately.
